June's Seasonal Flowers

Summer is here and with it brings my favourite season of flowers. There are such stunning choices, full of whimsical joy, ruffles and delicate petals.
Peonies
The superstars of early summer. Huge ruffled blooms that are only around for a few precious weeks before disappearing for another year.
Sweet Peas
Delicate, fluttery and wonderfully scented. If summer had a fragrance, it would probably smell like sweet peas.
Foxgloves
Tall spires covered in bell-shaped flowers. Perfect for adding a cottage garden feel to arrangements.
Garden Roses
At their best now. Softer, more fragrant and far more romantic than your average rose.
Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist)
A florist favourite with delicate flowers and fascinating seed heads that are just as beautiful as the blooms themselves.
Scabious
Light, airy and perfect for creating movement in bouquets.

Love what you're seeing in the flower buckets this month? Here's when these favourites are planted or sown for next year's display:
Peonies - planted in autumn and worth every year of waiting.
Sweet Peas - sown in autumn or late winter for armfuls of scented blooms.
Foxgloves - sown in early summer and flower the following year.
Garden Roses - best planted bare-root through winter.
Nigella - direct sow in spring or autumn for clouds of delicate flowers.
Scabious - sow in spring for months of airy, dancing blooms.
